Two coeliac-friendly restaurants in Madrid

While more and more restaurants are adapting their dishes to suit coeliacs, there are still many places that do not, so today we would like to tell about two delicious restaurants that are suitable for those with coeliac condition.

Nicontrigonisinti

In 2023 the gluten-free restaurant app Celicidad asked its users to name the best Spanish restaurants for coeliacs, and more than 34,000 users responded with their opinion and selected the 10 best options. In Madrid we’re in luck, as the number one spot has gone to Nicontrigonisinti, in San Sebastián de los Reyes.

This Madrid restaurant offers traditional and delicious home cooking, and while the entire menu is suitable for coeliacs, they also offer vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free options. Highlights among the starters are the finely-sliced aubergines with sugar cane honey, the fresh squid in batter, and the pumpkin and leek croquettes

They also offer Asian dishes such as tuna tataki with old-style mustard cream and dill on basmati rice, or succulent turkey fingers with orange-scented almonds accompanied by fried noodles. There is also a wide variety of burgers and other chef’s specialities such as bacon cachapa, marinated turkey and melted Gouda or vegetable lasagne.

For the younger members of the family they offer dishes such as chicken fingers with hand-cut potatoes, children’s hamburgers or basmati rice with tomato, grilled egg and sausages. And to put the icing on the cake, don’t leave without trying the crepe dipped in Nutella and hazelnut sauce with vanilla ice cream, the best camembert cheesecake in the world, served with red fruit jam, or the key lime tart with a biscuit base, Italian meringue and lime zest.

Grosso Napoletano Gluten free

In the heart of the Chamberí district is the gluten-free restaurant Grosso Napoletano, one of the most famous pizzerias in the centre of Madrid. Their entire menu is gluten-free and includes a wide variety of pizzas, our particular favourites being the Ofelia Tartufo (mozzarella fiordilatte, mortadella tartufata from Bologna, Grana Padano cream, parmesan and basil slices), the Diavola (San Marzano tomato, spicy Neapolitan salami, fiordilatte mozzarella and basil) or the Vera Carbonara (fiordilatte mozzarella, crispy guanciale, egg yolk sauce and a touch of black pepper).

Among the starters you should try the carpaccio di zucchine (marinated courgette slices with rocket, parmesan flakes, semi-dried tomato and granulated pistachio) or the vitello tonnato (sliced veal round served with capers and tuna and anchovy mayonnaise). As far as desserts are concerned, the most popular are the white tiramisu (like traditional tiramisu but with white chocolate), the Nutella pizza, perfect for those with a sweet tooth, and the albero da zia Lucy (semi-frozen ice cream with biscuit powder and a lot of magic).

These two proposals are perfect for enjoying the best gluten-free food in Madrid.
