Tinned food has for a long time been kept away from the halls of so-called gourmet gastronomy. But in recent years, preserves have started to gain traction in many restaurants, to the point of becoming cult dishes. If you also love tinned food, here is a list of the best places in Madrid where you can enjoy it.
Conservas Nudista is a new take on traditional taverns, offering “naked” products, so to speak, with no bells and whistles. Here we can enjoy a cool beer or glass of wine alongside a delicious preserve, be it fish, seafood, vegetables, beans, etc. You can also ask to take the tins home.
La Colmada is half wine bar, half grocer’s shop, and one of the most popular places in Malasaña for enjoying a glass of vermouth. With a décor inspired by old corner shops, La Colmada does not have its own kitchen – and it doesn’t need one! Its menu offers a wide range of different tinned foods: stewed bull’s tail, tuna with onions, scallops, and the classic mussels in pickled sauce. They also have their own charcuterie, so make sure to try some of their cured meats with homemade bread.
Like they say on their website, Aquí Santoña is a meeting point where you can enjoy gourmet preserves at an affordable price. Most products on their menu are homemade, like the Cantabrian anchovies or the red shrimp carpaccio. You can also ask to take their products home.
Muy Placer en Conserva
This is the dream-come-true of Olga Peñalver and Marta Romo. The menu at Muy Placer en Conserva boasts a fusion of some of the best fresh-off-the-market products and homemade preserves. Make sure to order the pinkish tuna sliced by hand, the pyramid of Galician xoubiña or the baby beans with crunchy roasted corn and lime.
Four concepts with the same goal: to bring traditional food into the limelight in the form of good old-fashioned preserves and tinned foods, but with an innovative presentation. If you want to check out all these restaurants, discover the offers we have prepared just for you.
