Three ideas for a unique May bank holiday in Madrid

Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year in the capital of Madrid. The cold has disappeared, the days are longer and the streets are full of people. There are also two very important holidays in Madrid in the month of May, the Puente de Mayo and San Isidro. Today, we bring you three ideas for enjoying on the first of these festivities.

A meal at the best restaurant in Madrid

The Association of Chefs and Confectioners of Madrid (ACYRE), has chosen Corral de la Morería, in Calle de la Morería, 17, as the best restaurant in Madrid in 2021. The highlight of this venue are its dinner shows. The venue opened more than 60 years ago and has been visited by celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Harrison Ford, who did not want to miss out on one of the most popular and prestigious tablaos in the world.

In addition to the flamenco show, the Corral de la Morería offers a luxury menu by chef David García. In fact, in his own words, “combining the best flamenco tablao in the world with haute cuisine is a brilliant idea, it’s pure emotion in every sense of the word“. The cuisine is based on quality raw materials and local produce. There are 3 set menus, the most special of which is the tasting menu, which is priced at 75.90 euros without the show. Highlights include dishes such as the Huerto Cordobés, a selection of tender seasonal vegetables and salmorejo; wild sea bass with stewed spring onions and smoked and toasted Iberian cured meats with grapefruit emulsion; and caramelised French toast with fresh milk and banana ice cream. The other two set menus, Soleá and Alegrías, are a little cheaper.

Enjoy the best brunch

Rita’s Brunch by Martini is one of the best brunch offerings on the weekend in Madrid. It combines live shows, music with DJs, food trucks and cocktails. It takes place on the terrace of Autocine Madrid on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 7 pm. There is also an extensive and varied selection of different foods served at the different food trucks. Choose from pizzas, tacos, rice dishes, barbecue, burgers and hot dogs. The entrance fee is 5 euros with a drink, 14 euros with food and 19.90 euros to add a drink. It is a fun experience with friends or as a couple.

A picnic in Juan Carlos I Park

If it doesn’t rain on the May bank holiday, there’s nothing better than a picnic in one of Madrid’s city parks. For this bank holiday, we suggest Juan Carlos I Park, located in the Feria de Madrid area. In addition to kilometres and kilometres of lawns, there is a wide variety of leisure activities such as different playgrounds, a large skating rink, a lake, an estuary for water sports and a free bicycle rental service. For the little ones, there is a free miniature train that runs through the park every half hour.

Three ideas for this long weekend in Madrid. Hopefully we can enjoy it with some good weather!
