Culture is alive and well in Madrid, thanks to its culture centres

Madrid is much more than its museums. Indeed the city is chock-a-block with cultural proposals that go far beyond the usual art galleries and theatres, offering an extensive range of options that includes something for everyone. Discover them here!

Círculo de Bellas Artes

Located in the heart of the capital, this private non-profit organisation offers a wide variety of cultural activities that includes national and international art exhibitions, cinema, theatre, conferences and adult workshops. In addition, the rooftop is home to one of the most beautiful vantage points for views of Madrid. The entrance fee is 5.5€. Without a doubt, it’s well worth a visit.

One of the most important centres of its type in the city, this social-cultural centre, part of the Montemadrid Foundation, is located in the Lavapiés neighbourhood and offers a variety of activities that includes concerts, free library, cinema and exhibitions. In addition, there’s an interesting summer cinema programme as well as concerts on the terrace and a wonderful bar offering snacks, meals and cocktails. You can also find a wide range of activities for the whole family.

Centro Cultural Conde Duque

This former military barracks in the Chamberí neighbourhood is now one of Madrid’s most popular cultural centres, with a programme that includes theatre and dance activities, cinema, art and music. As well as being the epicentre of the Veranos de la Villa programme, visitors can also enjoy a programme of classical and instrumental music concerts held throughout the year. The interior is also home to the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo.

Matadero Madrid

Our final suggestion is probably the best known among the local madrileños. Located next to Madrid Río, it hosts innovative exhibitions, music festivals and food markets. In summer you can also enjoy summer cinema, and in winter it houses one of the city’s biggest ice rinks. This cultural centre is also ideal for the whole family, as it offers a wide variety of activities and workshops for children of all ages.

If you’re a culture vulture, don’t miss out on these four centres offering a varied and complete programme of music, cinema, theatre and art.
