Four things to do in Madrid in winter

Madrid is a perfect destination for any time of year. Although we are often more reluctant to travel during the cold months, Madrid offers a multitude of activities that can only be done, or are more enjoyable, during the winter season.

Skiing in Navacerrada

Navacerrada is the perfect place for those new to skiing or families looking to spend a fun day in the snow with their children. It has 12 ski slopes and other areas for sledging and snowshoeing. And, to add a curious fact, it was one of the first ski resorts to be founded in Spain in the 40s.

Churros in San Ginés

Although Madrid’s most popular churreria is open all year round, its delicious hot chocolate is a particular treat for the body in the winter months. Located close to the Plaza Mayor, the Churreria of San Ginés serves an average of 2,000 hot chocolates and 10,000 churros every day. Take a break from your sightseeing and enjoy some good conversation over the heat of a delicious hot chocolate and a plate of scrumptious churros.

Ice skating

Madrid’s Palacio de Hielo boasts and Olympic-size ice rink, measuring 1,800 m2. Ice skating is the perfect winter activity whether with your family, friends or partner. The ice rink has all the latest music, screens and a café for a well-deserved rest after skating. Inside the Palacio de Hielo, you will also find a multitude of other things to do including a bowling alley, cinemas and a ball pool for the little ones.

See the almond blossom in Quinta de los Molinos

This beautiful and unknown park is located in the neighbourhood of El Salvador in the district of San Blas. And in case you didn’t know, the best time of the year to discover this park is at the end of February when the almond trees start to bloom. It is a truly wonderful sight, as the whole area is covered with pinkish white blossom and fills with a smell that reminds us that spring is on its way.

There are no reasons not to pack your bag and visit Madrid during the winter months. What is your favourite season for visiting Madrid?
