Chocolatería San Ginés

The most popular chocolate house (chocolatería) in Madrid and an essential stop on your tourist route through the city. Although it is half hidden between Calle Arenal and Calle Mayor, its façade does not go unnoticed by tourists strolling through the city centre. Chocolatería San Ginés dates back to 1894 and the ambience evokes the cafés of the late 19th century. The chocolate has its own secret recipe and the churros and porras are made daily and fried in sunflower oil without sugar. If you want to sample authentic churros madrileños, Chocolatería San Ginés is a must.

Chocolaterías Valor

Probably one of the best chocolate makers in Madrid, the Valor brand is synonymous with success. The churros and porras are made daily and are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can also try Valor chocolate in other forms, such as chocolate milkshakes or other treats, like chocolate croissants. There are three shops in Madrid, the most famous being the one on Calle Conde de Peñalver.

Chocolat Madrid

Located in the heart of the Barrio de las Letras, it was founded in 2003 by Juan Alfonso Boada. In just a few years it has become one of the most popular churrerías in the city. His proposal features high quality artisanal chocolate and the famous churros and porras prepared every morning are made to be enjoyed in a warm, family atmosphere.

La Antigua Churrería

This famous churrería has been in the hands of the Quiroga family for four generations. There are two locations in the capital, one on Calle Conde de Peñalver, the other on Bravo Murillo. The churros are made according to great-grandmother Juana’s recipe, which uses perfectly fried dry dough, while the chocolate is made according to a traditional recipe that requires a double cooking technique. In addition to traditional churros, they also offer a version with white chocolate as well as chocolate and cream-filled varieties.

Four churrerías, some of which have been around for many years, and all of which offer their own exquisite version of this delicious snack.
