If there is one food that triumphs in summer, it is ice cream. And when the heat arrives, there’s nothing we like more. In Madrid, we are lucky to have a huge variety of ice cream parlours serving both traditional and original flavours, all of which are delicious. Today we are taking a look at our favourites.

The history of La Romana dates back to 1947, to the Italian town of Rimini, where these delicious ice creams were made on a daily basis. After more than 50 years, the ice creams still retain the traditional flavour and recipes of their origins, but new original creations have also been added. Don’t miss new flavours such as ‘cremino al pistacchio‘, ‘arachide pralinata al cioccolato‘, ‘cacao puro con fave di cacao‘ and ‘caramello salato con noci pecan‘. You can also opt for some of the more popular ones including ‘biscotto della nonna‘, ‘cioccolato al latte‘, ‘cremino al caffè’and ‘croccante all’amarena‘. You won’t be disappointed with any of these flavours.
The most original ice creams on the list can be found at La Pecera, in the heart of the Malasaña neighbourhood. All their ice creams are accompanied by original and fresh Taiyakis, which are homemade sponge cakes in the shape of a fish, soft and light on the inside and crunchy on the outside. They also offer two other original creations. Tayakitos are mini versions of taiyakis, and you can accompany them with different toppings or dip them in Nocilla, strawberry or dulce de leche. For ice cream lovers, they suggest their Batiyaki, ice cream covered with Nocilla, dulce de leche, strawberries or berries, a bit of crunch and a choice of topping (granola, biscuits, peanuts, marshmallows, sweets, among others).
This ice cream parlour fuses the traditions of Italy and Argentina with the experience of master ice cream maker Carlos Arribas. Their ice creams are handmade daily in their workshop. All the products they use are of the highest quality. They have more than 70 ice creams divided into 3 types: fruity, including coconut with dulce de leche, yerba mate, orange and peach; cream with flavours such as banana split, churros, dulce de leche, mascarpone and toffee cake; and for those with a sweet tooth, chocolate with options such as Kinder Bueno, Nutella, Ferrero and chocolate with Baileys. It is also the perfect place if you are coeliac or gluten intolerant because they have gluten free wafers.
This is one of the latest additions and it is located in the heart of the Chueca neighbourhood. The aesthetics is one of the things that impresses us the most when we enter Brando, as all of the ice creams are presented in stone cabinets. Don’t miss out on original flavours as lemon with basil, Baileys, Belgian white chocolate with Jijona nougat, alfajor and mango and passion fruit. An explosion of flavours for ice cream lovers.
Four delicious options that are sure to impress. Which is the best ice cream parlour in Madrid in your opinion?
